INTRODUCTION
“Although water from the Christian well is impure, it washes only the dead Jew, so what’s the fear?”[1] With these words, of the very famous proverb now, in 1622 Persian Shah Abbas justified his alliance with the English in driving out the Portuguese who held the Ormus port in the Persian Gulf under their control. The English justified themselves with the sectarian differences that created their enmity with the Portuguese.[2] But all of them only wanted the control over the Ormus port. In those years, Europeans were so powerful that at the same time fighting with the Muslim authoritiesin the East, they were able to fight against each other for occasional benefits, which the previous example testifies Muslims were violating holy Islamic rules of not signing an alliance with |

| an enemy in the Jihad, whenever it was in the interest of some secular goal.
Both of them devised justifications for such acts to repent sins committed towards the religion they held their own and in the name of which they called their subjects to battle.
Conflicts between Christians and Muslims are nothing new, but the Transnational Islamist Terrorism, as we call it today, goes beyond the scope of conventional warfare that resists the all, in the meantime, created rules. Once, the front lines were known, today, a victim of terror act can be anyone and anywhere. Off course, every side still has its own justifications for action it takes – both for conflict, and for alliance.
Many erudite people (followers of any religion) in the world are interested in the problem of terrorism and they are making efforts trying to explain the cause of this phenomenon so that, by the practical work, it can be stopped or at least its expression can be diminished. After the 9/11 attack in America, the number of scientists and experts who are trying to uncover a secret of suicide terrorism has multiplied relative to the previous period. Experts from various scientific disciplines, such as sociology, psychology; economics, security etc. are activated. Based on a number of studies in this field, the anti-terror measures, national and international, are created.
Transnational and suicide Islamist terrorism is increasing and this fact tells us that we have not succeeded yet. However, the answer to this question cannot be understood easily if we do not know why the Islamists decided to use terrorism in achieving their political goals. What are their goals? How much it is connected with the religion and how much with the economic interests. Isn’t it obvious that the “Ormus port” is an historical metaphor for all the events that took place in line with what we today call the Global Terrorism – The War on Terrorism?
The importance of uncovering the cause of suicide terrorism is not only in the fact that it causes mass mortality and destruction. Its diffusion affects the individual perception of life and values of it in the Muslim society, in that the perception becomes more and more deviant.
Many questions arise concerning suicide bombers. If they are psychically ill, why they don’t carry out an ordinary, that is, a traditional suicide? If they are blackmailed or forced, how can it be possible that society is not able to resist that kind of creating suicide bombers for more than twenty years? If the reason for going into a suicide mission is religious fanatism, then, how can one explain suicide bombers who perform such acts in the aim of creating the national state of Tamils on the Sri Lankan territory? The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam terrorist organization, which organizes suicide attacks in Sri Lanka, declares itself as a supra-religious organization with the strict secular goals. If they do it for money, than it comes into conflict with the conventional logic that one can kill the other for money, but it makes no sense to commit suicide only for that reason. If suicide bombers devote themselves to such missions because the organizers of an attack finance their families after committing an act and because they think they contribute to a better life of their community, then how can one explain their understanding of help if they know that when the victim countries of suicide attack get revenge, their families and broader society will be those who suffer. This is just a part of the issue that makes us confused when we think about suicide terrorism.
This book, in front of you, provides answers to the broader scope of the field that the problem of terrorism is encroaching. The author points out the connection of historical, economical and political relations between the conflicting parties. This allows us to understand the connection of the ways of organizing the new Jihad, the terrorists’ ultimate and operative goals they have with an individual who commits suicide in the name of Islamic religion.
The research done for this book reveals how the indoctrination by martyrdom functions in a Muslim society and shows its influence on using suicide terrorism. It makes use of many original and up to now not easily accessible sources. Although its methodology is thorough and scientific, the book is written for the concerned public.
