Suicide Bombers: Who's Next About the Author Reviews Content Excerpt Copyrights

           Review

This book approaches the disturbing activities of suicide terrorists with scientific rigour, historical detail and a compassionate style. Violeta Matović guides the reader away from superficial sterotypes and develops carefully the foundations for the better understanding of this menace, in particular the crucial role of “indoctrination”. Historical examples, economic analysis, sociological classification and a rich variety of case studies help to take a look behind a veil of ignorance and misinformation.
Violeta Matović, a renowned security expert on the Balkans, provides an authentic picture about how suicide terrorists are recruited, trained and sent on their deadly mission. This book is a rich source of information and inspiration for everyone who is concerned about security issues and suicide terrorism.

            Review

The book, “Suicide Bombers: Who’s Next”, by Violeta Matović, illuminates the dark part of suicide terrorism, which more than two decades stands in the shadow of a branchy tree based on the religious conflict between Christians and Muslims.
Going far back into the history of relationship between Christian and Islamic followers, Violeta Matović presents the root of the problem of what we now call global terrorism. Pointing out the economic reasons for the conflict of the Islamic East and the Christian West, the author explores secular aspects of suicide terrorism through the scientific approach, contrary to the so far accepted dominant aspect of religious devotion of the Muslims. Identifying the techniques with which the indoctrination by the concept of martyrdom is carried out over the Muslims, the author actually reveals the mechanisms by which the organizers of suicide attacks manage to gain the support from the Muslim community, and thereby a larger number of individuals who devote themselves to a suicide mission.
Political neutrality gives a special value to this book. Based on the facts, this book represents a big scientific step out in the research of the suicide terrorism phenomenon.
